SEWING WITH MUM....

Did you sew as a child ? I can remember my Mother buying those ready printed panels when I was a child, the ones where the cushion, toy, stocking etc was printed out onto fabric for you to cut and sew....

I had not really thought about these printed panels for some time, but then came across this Patty Young rag doll panel on seamstar (however, when I have come to look at them again they were not there so maybe Courtney has sold out ?), and thought what a great little project it would be for Hebe (#3 aged 5 years old), I put it away ready to pop into her Christmas stocking, but then forgot, only remembering it this week...

So we set to work, cutting out......

pinning...

sewing, Hebe guiding and me pedaling...

all sew up and ready for stuffing....

I gave a bit of help sewing up the opening of the stuffed doll...

And 'ta da' , the doll was born....Hebe was very proud of her doll that she had 'made' herself, and called her Daffodil ? (who am I to question why !)...

Of course as soon as little sister Clemmie saw Daffodil, she wanted one too, so half an hour later Elena was ready to play......

On Patty Young's blog there is a free downloadable pattern to make dresses for the dolls, so as soon as the fabric choice is decided upon, that is what we will be making next.....

It was fun to spend time with Hebe doing something that we both enjoyed, and I think that I may well be looking out out for other simple 'makes' such as these in the future....

  1. Oh what fun those look. Bet the girls will love them as they've made them themself :)

I remember a Clothkits doll from my childhood very similar to those.

  3. I've got that panel lurking away somewhere too! I started a clothkits dolly for H during the summer that got resigned to the WIP pile! Luckily my mum took it home over the holidays and will finish it for her!

  5. Maria , how sweet , the dolls are precious and the fact the girls made them makes them extra special . I can remember sewing dolls as a child but they weren't printed out this way , we sort of made them up ourselves and even if they looked weird we loved them .;-)

  6. Those dolls are so cute! Just perfect for little learners. I don't remember sewing with my mother, but I do remember I started pretty much when she stopped. I'm now thinking that perhaps I hogged the sewing machine!!

  8. I remember making a corduroy rabbit for my baby nephew when I was about 10. He used to suck its ears!
I think it was hand sewn though - my mum's Jones was a bit scary!

  9. Now this looks like fun - I'm thinking Miss 2.5 would need to wait a while before she could sew with me - :)
Nope I never sewed with my mother ;'( she used the sewing machine as a punishment - when I was 'naughty' she wouldn't let me use it (Dad went out and brought me my own one in the end as it got beyond silly)
