day out

we went to Brockhole, lake district visitor centre  on the shores of lake Windermere on Saturday. it is somewhere that we visit time and time again at different times/seasons of the year.
we only had the the two younger ones with us this time as Freya and Finn are still away with auntie Joan and Uncle Bob - they will be back tomorrow.

we picnicked...

always picnic in the same place, on one of the garden terraces over looking the adventure playground, the girls think that this is a secret garden as we always seem to have all to ourselves..

paddled in the lake and skimmed stones...

climbed trees..

or in Clemmie's case, used the tree to hang up her hat and jacket...

the blossom in the more formal gardens up by the visitor centre and tea rooms was at its best...

it was sad to see that the massive monkey puzzle tree that used to stand to the left of this view had been cut down, apparently to give a better view for people having tea on the terraces of the tea rooms !, i ask you !

and of course we always finish off on the grassy bank to have a ice lolly and a roll down the hill.

here's Hebe doing the rolling in 2011...

here are all four are in 2010...

and 2009...

such happy memories of this place over the past few years...
