wildlife watch club

Have you heard of wildlife watch ? Watch is the junior branch of The Wildlife Trusts and the UK’s leading environmental action club for kids. there is a wildlife watch club held on the last Saturday of the month at our fantastic local park.

Park view 4U was started almost 10 years ago by a group of parents who wanted to have better play facilities for the children of Lytham (have a look at the website if you have time). I don't think anyone could envisage what their hard work would achieve. There are now play zones for toddlers, school age children and teens; meeting shelters for teens; BMX track; skate park; trim trail; football pitches; picnic areas; cycle paths; woodland walks; wild flower meadows; outdoor story telling area; kitchen garden; an amphitheatre and a fantastic community centre and cafe. It really does need to be seen to be believed.

This months watch club was held in the new kitchen garden, which will eventually supply produce to the cafe.

The children made newspaper planters;

Decorated painted pebbles to take home and put in the garden;

And made seed bombs. the girls loved the messiness of that !

They also got to do a bit of planting, here is Clemmie planting onions.

We are so lucky to have such a brilliant resource on our doorstep. We walk to school and back along a cycle path that goes right past the park, that was put in at the very start of the park project.

I would thoroughly recommend that you check the watch club website to see if there is a watch club near you, it is great fun, and what else could you get for £2 per child a session ?

P.S This watch club was started just over a year ago and won the best new watch club in the country !, all down to the dedicated volunteers that give their time each month.

  1. Wow, what an amazing set up and credit to all the parents who got stuck in to initiate and develop this great idea. I have never heard of it, but I will make sure to look into it, thank you for the info (you're very resourceful!). It looks like you had a wonderful day and that the kids had fun. I know mine would have loved the seed bombs, ooh the mess, such fun! Thanks for sharing xxx
